Rebecca Burkholder Ms. Burkholder is Director of Health Policy at the National Consumers League, a national, nonprofit membership organization that has represented consumers and workers since 1899. Ms. Burkholder coordinates the League’s work on various health care issues, including safe use of medication, patient safety, doctor-patient communication, and direct-to-consumer advertising. She is responsible for research on these issues, producing consumer information, and advocating for system changes. She also coordinates the SOS Rx coalition, a broad based coalition dedicated to improving outpatient medication safety. Ms. Burkholder testifies before U.S. government agencies, such as the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission, on consumer health issues. Ms. Burkholder serves on the Board of Governors, National Patient Safety Foundation and has spoken at numerous conferences across North America on consumer health issues. Ms. Burkholder joined the League in 2001.
Before joining the League, Ms. Burkholder worked as a health care attorney for the law firm of Reed Smith Shaw and McClay in Washington, DC. At Reed Smith she counseled a variety of clients on a wide range of health care issues, including occupational safety and health, Medicare and Medicare reimbursement, advance directives, long-term care and patient rights. Ms. Burkholder graduated with high honors from Georgetown Law Center, and is a member of the Washington, D.C. bar.
