WASHINGTON, DC, August 14 -- Linda F. Golodner, National Consumers League president,
issued the following statement today in reaction to the Federal Communications Commission's
approval of the Bell Atlantic/NYNEX merger.
"The new Bell Atlantic is committed to maintain and strengthen close community relationships
and quality customer service. The company has pledged to listen seriously to consumer
recommendations and involve the public in the decision-making process.
"The new Bell Atlantic is also committed to preserving jobs for its employees and enhancing
services and products for all its customers, including people with disabilities.
"The National Consumers League will work to help the new company meet these important goals," Golodner said.
