FDA AND NCL ANNOUNCE CORRECTION
ON THEIR NEW FOOD AND DRUG INTERACTION BROCHURE

WASHINGTON, DC... The Food and Drug Administration and the National Consumers League are correcting information in a brochure they recently developed for consumers on drug interactions. The brochure erroneously stated that the consumption of grapefruit juice with prescription antihistamine drugs fexofenadine (Allegra), or loratadine (Claritin) could result in serious heart problems. In fact, FDA knows of no evidence of such an interaction problem involving these drugs.
Although advance copies of this brochure have been distributed to the press, FDA and NCL are working to ensure that corrections are made to the brochure before it is distributed to the general public. Corrected versions of the brochure will also be redistributed to those who received the advance copies.
We regret this error and any inconvenience it may have caused.

For more information, write or call the National Consumers League at 1701 K Street, N.W., Suite 1200, Washington, D.C. 20006, (202) 835-3323.
