The telephone is a vital link to the
outside world – but do you sometimes wish unwanted telemarketing
calls would stop? You can take control of your phone and reduce
the number of sales calls you receive by following August’s tips
in the National Consumers League’s “2007 Scam-Free Calendar.”
The tips explain your “no call” rights and how to put your
telephone number (including cell phones) on the national Do Not
Call registry.
“As millions of people have discovered,
putting your number in the registry is free and easy to do,”
said Susan Grant, Director of NCL’s Fraud Center. “If after
signing up you receive calls from companies that you don’t
already have a business relationship with, it’s a danger sign pf
fraud.”
The nation’s oldest consumer advocacy organization,
NCL works to educate people about how to avoid rip-offs and make
wise decisions in today’s marketplace. Each month, the home page
of NCL’s
www.fraud.org Web site
features the calendar and tips for the month. Covering a range
of subjects from safe shopping online to wise investing, the
tips are sponsored by major companies, government agencies, and
organizations. AT&T sponsored the August tips about
telemarketing calls.
All of the calendar tips are archived at
www.fraud.org/calendar,
along with a “Resources for Consumers” page that provides
contact information for government agencies, consumer groups,
and calendar sponsors. The print version of the calendar was
distributed to consumers free of charge through agencies and
organizations around the country.
There
are no printed copies of the calendar remaining. |
