WASHINGTON, DC -- How
can you tell if the prescription drugs you buy are counterfeit
or the real thing? The January tips in the National Consumers
League’s “2007 Scam-Free Calendar” tell you what to look for and
who to contact if you suspect that drug products are phony. The
nation’s oldest nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, NCL
works to educate consumers about how to avoid rip-offs and make
wise decisions in today’s marketplace.
Each month this year, the
home page on NCL’s www.fraud.org Web site will feature the
calendar and tips for the month. Covering a range of subjects
from how to shop safely online to how to spot an illegal pyramid
scheme, the tips are sponsored by major companies, government
agencies, and organizations. January’s tips on counterfeit drugs
were sponsored by Pfizer. All of the calendar tips will be
archived on the Web site at www.fraud.org/calendar, along with a
“Resources for Consumers” page that provides contact information
for government agencies, consumer groups, and calendar sponsors.
NCL distributed the print
version of the calendar by providing quantities free of charge
to agencies and organizations around the country that work
directly with consumers in their communities. “They’re giving
the calendars away at meetings, workshops, and other community
events,” said Susan Grant, Director of NCL’s National Fraud
Information Center. “From the feedback we’re getting, the
calendar is a big hit.” NCL is not accepting requests for the
calendar directly from individual consumers. |
