Teen financial literacy program receives grant from Experian

As the 2009 state champion LifeSmarts teams gear up for the National Championship in St. Louis, MO, NCL has announced a $146,000 grant from Experian®, the global information services company, to help underwrite LifeSmarts, NCL’s 15-year-old program that educates teens and tweens on real-world financial and consumer literacy issues.

Consumer, nutrition groups urge Obama, Congress to update alcohol policies for the 21st Century

A coalition of public interest groups have called on Congress and the Obama Administration to overturn decades of inattention to the nation’s alcohol policies by finally issuing a useful final regulation to require standardized labeling information on beer, wine, and distilled spirits products and providing the government resources needed to address such pressing problems as underage drinking, binge drinking, and drunk driving.
Wisconsin takes 2009 national LifeSmarts title

In a tough final match against the second-place team from Washington State’s Kittitas High School, the Wisconsin teens from Oconto High School outscored their opponents and did it with great sportsmanship. Teams from New Hampshire and Oklahoma placed third in the 15th annual LifeSmarts national championship in St. Louis.
Testimonial advertising crossing the line into deception, says NCL

Appearing today before a Senate subcommittee, NCL called for stricter rules regarding the use of consumer and expert testimonials in advertising, pointing lawmakers and regulators to badly needed guidelines regarding disclosure by bloggers of compensation received for product and service reviews.

National Consumers League launching 2009-2010 LifeSmarts year

Today marks the official start of the 16th season of LifeSmarts, an educational competition that tests middle school and high school students nationwide on real-life consumer issues through online quizzes and live contests.

Consumer group sues General Mills for deceptive claims on Cheerios
