Millions of young people are arriving on the nation’s college campuses this summer. Many of them will be embarking on a life without parents for the first time. Unfortunately, many of these young people will be entering the marketplace on their own, with precious little understanding of how to navigate it successfully. Worse, many students may fall prey to scams targeting college students.

This year, NCPW partners—which includes AARP, Better Business Bureau, Consumer Federation of America, and a handful of federal government agencies and others—are focusing Dollars and Sense: Rated “A” for All Ages on highlighting consumer education for every stage of life – from grade school to retirement.
NCL survey: teens and financial education
The Teens and Financial Education survey was conducted for the National Consumers League by Opinion Research Corporation with support from the Bank of America Foundation. The survey was conducted by telephone among a random sample of 506 teens aged 14-18 between February 14 and 19, 2002 and sought to test teens’ knowledge of financial issues; examine their attitudes toward money, work, and savings; and assess how they plan to deal with credit cards and other loans.
