What is Responsible Rx?

Responsible Rx is a new program of the National Consumers League (NCL) designed to help parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) to make successful and appropriate treatment choices for their children.

The Responsible Rx program will give parents the tools to:

  • Better assess risks and optimize the benefits of AD/HD medications
  • Monitor their child's progress while on medication
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms that signal potential concern and warrant physician attention
  • Ask the right questions when talking to their child's physician about treatments

Why was Responsible Rx created?

Responsible Rx was created to help the millions of parents of children with AD/HD who face the difficult responsibility of choosing whether medication is the best course of treatment to for their child.

What tools or resources will the Responsible Rx program develop to help parents?

The Responsible Rx program will provide a toolkit to help parents understand the treatment evaluation and management process once an AD/HD diagnosis has been made. The toolkit, which will be available online
at www.ResponsibleRx.org, will include forms to help parents maintain a detailed medical history and monitor their child's response to medication,
as well as information on reading prescription medication labels and reporting symptoms and behaviors to their child's physician.
